Ifrane is a charming mountain village located about 65 km south of Fes. Known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its particularly neat and clean appearance, numerous parks, lakes, and alpine-style houses, Ifrane is a popular tourist resort. Founded by the French in 1930, it is a coveted summer destination for affluent Moroccans and a popular ski destination in winter. Among the must-see attractions is the majestic stone lion, carved by a German soldier during World War II in honor of the last lion of the Atlas Mountains. The prestigious Al-Akhawayn University and the exterior of the Royal Palace are also worth a visit.
