Our team will welcome you at the designated meeting point and guide you through a visit to Fes, the oldest of the imperial cities, founded in 790 by Moulay Idriss II.
Fes was soon recognized as the main religious center of Morocco. You will start the tour by exploring the medieval Medina, visiting the Bou Inania and Attarine Madrasas, ancient Islamic religious universities, and admiring the Karaouine Mosque and the renowned Nejjarine Fountain.
You will then take a stroll through the souks, the lively markets of Fes, where you will discover the characteristic districts of dyers, blacksmiths, and potters. In the afternoon, you will depart for the majestic Atlas Mountains, crossing the cedar forests. You will arrive in Midelt, where you will spend the night in a riad of your choice.
We will head towards the desert, passing through the two oases of Merzouga. Along the way, we will visit a nomad camp and the village of Khamlia, known as the “village of the blacks,” famous for its traditional music. We will continue to the Mifiss mines and cross the desert plateaus, where we will have the opportunity to meet Berber nomads and visit the Tissardmine oasis.
We will arrive around 3:00 PM, in time to set off with the camel caravan and witness the magnificent sunset over the dunes. We will spend the night in a wild oasis, about two hours into the heart of the desert. Dinner will be served at the camp, and we will spend the night in tents.
After watching the sunrise over the dunes, we will return to Merzouga by camel and head back to the riad for breakfast and a refreshing shower. The day will be dedicated to exploring the surrounding region. We will discover fascinating natural fossil formations in the desert, visit the village of Tissardmine, known for being the set of numerous films, and venture into the black desert, characterized by unique volcanic stones. We will also have the opportunity to meet a nomad family and learn about their lifestyle.
We will continue with a visit to the village of Khamlia, famous for its population of sub-Saharan origin and its renowned Gnawa music. Returning to Merzouga, you can enjoy a typical dinner and immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere of the desert, with an overnight stay in a riad of your choice.
After breakfast, we will depart for Rissani, where we will have the opportunity to explore the lively local market.
