In the heart of the old town, Outa-el-Hammam Square hosts the Tarik-Ben-Ziad Mosque, famous for its octagonal minaret inspired by Seville’s Torre de Oro, and a historic fortress. The new town, located lower down, offers an interesting contrast with the blue medina. In the evening, you will continue to Fes, where you will spend the night in a riad or hotel. Dinner and overnight included.
Fes, one of the oldest and most prestigious imperial cities of Morocco, is the cultural and spiritual heart of the country. Located in a fertile valley at about 350 meters above sea level, the city is famous for its Medina, a maze of alleys and markets reflecting the essence of the Islamic world.
After breakfast, you will begin exploring the city with a knowledgeable guide and driver. Fes is divided into three main areas: the New City, developed from the 1200s and home to the station, the Royal Palace, and the Jewish quarter; the Medina, the historic heart with its labyrinthine streets and markets; and the Ville Nouvelle, the modern area with restaurants and cafés.
You will visit historical and cultural highlights such as the Bou Inania Madrasa, Al Karaouine Mosque (not accessible to non-Muslims), Attarine Medersa, Najjarine Square with its splendid decorated fountain, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, and the Merenid tombs. You’ll spend the night in the tented camp, surrounded by the magic of the desert.
